Oct. 22nd -24th 2012
Owner Dave Denison and General Manager just returned a trip to Manhattan. Actually it was more like a pilgrimage to visit our past, current and future Cookbook Series heroes. The stops included eight past or future locations that have produced the goods to compile our over 100 cookbook menus. Three Mario Batali locations, a visit with Marcus Samuelsson and team at Red Rooster, along with a stop at Rao’s, both up in Harlem. Then there was a dinner at Balthazar in SoHo, a lunch at Momofuku Noodle Bar over in East Village with stops at Union Square Café and Les Halles.
The first night in NYC, was spent at the original Blue Ribbon restaurant on Sullivan Street, which is our first November 2012 Cookbook Series menu. They had it on hand and presented it to the manager after settling in to the table. He was surprised and flattered by this gesture. Excitedly, he explained that the restaurant was celebrating their 20 th anniversary the very day amical kicks off our series with their cookbook. Coincidence? I think not! Dave and Jeff were able to order off the menu they wrote! The prices charged, however, came from Blue Ribbon's menu.
